The practice of reading coffee grounds and tea leaves, tasseomancy, has been around for centuries. Part Rorschach test, part divination, coffee reading is part of people’s daily lives in a geography that extends from the Arab Peninsula, Iran, and Turkey, extending all the way to the Balkans. It is an feminist happening, with ancient symbolism and an organic storytelling element.

Join us in this creative writing workshop, where we will use the coffee grinds as a prompt and produce stories that speak to their symbolism. As part of this workshop, you will also learn how to read a coffee cup, key symbols, and their meanings, and what alludes to the future in your fortune.

Busra Erkara is a writer and editor. Her essays and stories appeared in The New York Times, i-D and Vol 1. Brooklyn among others. Her idols are dead and her enemies are in power.

Witches vs. the Patriarchy
Witches of the World, unite! Witchcraft has been making a comeback lately (for the first time since since a century of five). And what could be more magical than writing? Than creating entire worlds using nothing but your imagination and a pen or laptop? In this workshop series, we will explore different forms of witchcraft and writing: how can they strengthen one another (and how can we use them to overthrow the patriarchy)
